“Team work makes the dream work”

Name: Eric Bortoletto Fontes. Degree: Law, 5th year. Origin: State University of the North of Paraná – CCSA/CJ. Destination: University of Porto. Period: 02/2017 until 07/2017. Type of Modality: Universia Santander. "This student exchange provided by UENP has been definitely the best opportunity I could get. I could summarize the six months living in Portugal as follows: attending one of the best universities in the world, travelling around the whole continent and making lots of friends. Apart from this, the cultural and academic development was enormous. The theoretical improvement in various legal materials such as the use of English and Spanish in different situations became a great contribution to my overall studies. I could easily adapt, even if the understanding of Portuguese spoken there has been at the beginning quite difficult since Lusitanians’ rhythm of speech is different and words have often another meaning. Concerning my studies, I could attend courses I’ve chosen on my own, soI opted for Law, International Public Law and Criminology, such as History of Criminology and Forensic Science as these are not offered in Brazilian courses of graduation. Besides, I had been selected with 1300 other exchange students coming from 84 countries to participate in a program called School without Borders, organized by the Chamber of Porto together with the University of Porto. This program was about a lecture for students in basic education, talking about Brazil, the exchange, our university’s origin and our course. Finally, words cannot express all I have experienced and for how grateful I am. I thank for Prof. Eliane Segati and also prof. Soraya Saad for all the support and help I received."

UENP, being an institution propagating knowledge, became more dynamic and available in all its aspects, especially in the internationalization and cultural sphere. The projects led by the Center of International Relations and the Pro-Rectory of Extension and Culture are prove of this change, forming an unprecedented accomplishment for this institution, namely: bringing the regional culture of the North of Paraná beyond borders, to Paraguay. As the director of culture, I was able to accompany and participate in the whole process of the Artistic-Cultural Incentive. A program for expanding one’s view of culture, knowledge on a regional such as international level, contributing to internationalization. With this project I had the opportunity to widen my cultural experiences starting with the contact of another nation (Paraguay), whose culture has a strong focus on national identity. It has been a period of intense academic activities during five days at the National University of Itapúa, with a wonderful hosting. In this institution we had the opportunity to participate at the „Expo Libro y Arte” event hosted by UNI, where we could get an access to artistic aspects. Furthermore, we developed institutional relations with their cultural managers, who welcomed all exchanges of experience. All in all, the travel to Encarnación has been a positive experience for both myself and the artists, who could present their works at the cultural exchange of arts and had a new experience of presenting their works in another country. I am more than grateful for the Center of International Relations of UENP, Prof. Eliane Segati and also for our Pro-Rector of Extension and Culture, Simone Castanho, who do not hesitated to help this quite important project for UENP.

Name: Rafael Braz da paz Oliveira. Degree: Faculty of Arts in Portuguese and Spanish – 4th year. Origin: State University of the North of Paraná – CLCA/CJ. Destination: National University of Itapúa – Sede Encarnación. "First I would like to thank the group of UENP, as for Eliane Segatti, Coordinator of International Relations of CRI, as well as James Rios, Cultural Director of PROEC. These people helped and accompanied me from the first moment on until I’ve got back. I went to Encarnación, the district capital of Itapúa, Paraguay, together with the director and vice-director of PROEC and a second student, Beatriz Silva from the same faculty. We were selected for this project that aimed bringing regional art works from the North of Paraná to an international event called ExpoLibro at UNI (Natioanl University of Itapúa). The project has been supported by ZICOSUR (Integration Zone of Southwest and Central America – Zona de Integracion del Centro Oeste Sudamericano), which brings great advances concerning internationalization at UENP.
The ExpoLibro took place between the 30th and 31st May, 1st and 2nd June, where besides presenting our community, customs and university, could also get to know the same aspects of Paraguay. We attended different cultural and academic presentations, met deans and rectors of various centers, mainly from the area of Scientific Humanities, and were introduced to projects that were already completed in UNI.

I spent some time already in Colombia, so now I could experience a bit the Paraguayan regionalism, making inferences and comparisons on both formal and informal level, use of slang and mainly, I had the opportunity for the first time in my life to see Guarani. Encarnación gave us the identity of a national country, proud of its history, patriots who wear their country’s colors every time they can (we have seen many squares with trees and other ornaments all decorated in their colors). Returning to UNI, we got to know the Coral, Bailado, the Theater, the University orchestra and students’ art work. Speaking of dedication and access to culture it was unavoidable not to compare all that with our university to see how much we need to develop, as academics and individuals, citizens and natives of the country, as defenders of our national culture. The projects were realized by students studying at different faculties, both students at the beginning of their studies and students already graduating. This way the works are highly interdisciplinary, discussions take place in a wide range finding common goals, studies are deepened and facilitated.
I would like to thank for all, the rector, dean, coordinators, directors of UNI (National University of Itapúa), who hosted us in the best hotels helping in every moment showing the most beautiful sights of Encarnación and the nationalism of Paraguay. Thank you very much!"

"Between the 22nd and 27th May 2016, the 21st Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court took place in Washington DC, at the American University. The Faculty of Law at UENP participated the 5th time in this international event where a trial is simulated by the Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court, an international organism empowered to judge the signatory countries of the Pact of San José of Costa Rica who have violated human rights. Rivals work with a hypothetical case, in which they represent a fictitious state and supposed victims in a trilingual debate relying on simultaneous translation. This year, the students Pablo Eduardo Pocay Ananias and Tayla Lydia Dummer represented UENP. CRI supported their travel and other expenses. In general, we are talking about an incredible opportunity of exchange. It is an honor to participate at IAMOOT and a privileged opportunity."

Name: Ricardo Castanho; Degree: Nursing, Destination: Paraguay; University: Eastern National University, Period: 24th to 38th May 2016; Type of Mobility: ZICOSUR (Integration Zone of Southwest and Central America – Zona de Integracion del Centro Oeste Sudamericano)

Name: Lucas Mateus Gomes Martins; Degree: Economic Sciences; Destination: Portugal; University: University of Coimbra; Period: 02/2016 until 07/2016; Type of Mobility: Universia Santander.

"I would like to start my report with thanking Prof. Dr. Eliane Segati and Paulo Sergio who supported all my travel. In August 2015 I received the call from the Center of International Relations of UENP, telling me that I got to be selected from all students who entered the selection process of the Ibero-American Scholarship by Santander Universidades. At the end of January I left to Portugal with passport and visa in my hands. I was hosted in a building called Yellow House in Coimbra rented by Erasmus students from Brazil, Italy, Germany, England, Spain, Poland and Luxembourg.

I studied at FEUC – Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra, where I attended classes of English Language, Monetary and Financial Economics, Inequality and Social Movements and International Organizations. This exchange has been the best academic and personal experience of my life. I obtained a new aspect of different cultures, I learnt more of respect and responsibility, about ideas not equal with mine, I realized how huge and important Brazil in European’s eyes’ is, the study materials provided me with contents I never thought that I would learn about and I got the chance to see ancient, historic cities in Portugal.

Portugal is an amazing country, full of historical monuments, beautiful cities and beaches, great music, excellent cuisine. I am really grateful for everything, for Coimbra, its university, UENP, for my parents, to support me financially, accompanied me in lonely moments, because all this made it possible to meet amazing people, people with whom I spent together my entire exchange period, who helped me in difficulties, knocking on my door to ask how I felt, who made me cry when we had to say goodbye and who learnt to understand the value of a hug, what it means for us Brazilians, even if it was unknown in their own culture.

After visiting Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain and the United Kingdom, I did not share any more the idea of cold, introverted Europeans. I actually fell in love with them, the way they live, face problems…I returned with such happiness to Brazil, that whenever people ask me how my travel was, a smile appears on my face. I spent incredible weeks with students from all over the world and this way I became also more patriotic loving at the same time many other countries. I gained a lot of knowledge for my professional career as an economist and I made many friends, travelled, studied a lot, spending hours in the library of Coimbra, and enjoyed the life there. I am very grateful for UENP, UC, Santander and my family."
